Why I Created The Chris Usher Mathematics Academy
The reason most students don't really excel in Maths is not because they're weak. It's to do with the way maths teaching is organised and sometimes delivered in schools.
Too often teaching in schools is rushed, there is a lack of experienced maths teachers in many schools, and the pressures of managing workload and classroom behaviour can leave teachers overwhelmed. This can then have a significant impact on your child's enjoyment in maths and their success in their formal exams.
But the biggest problem is the lack of focus in school on excellent quality exam preparation. The consequence is that, for your child, it's very much a case of sink or swim.
Traditional tutoring fails to address these problems because it lacks a long term plan. That's why I created the Chris Usher Mathematics Academy. To provide the sort of experience of learning maths that your child really deserves. The sort that encourages genuine understanding, true mastery, and real enjoyment. Because these underpin your child's future success.
Having gained first class degree in Mathematics from York University back in the 1990s, I've spent over 30 years teaching and examining Maths and leading schools, and on retiring from Headship, I realised that now was the time to offer someting truly different.
